Let Them Rage

1 min read

The Democrats are mad again:

Chuck Schumer launched an assault on Mitch McConnell’s plans for how to hold Donald Trump’s impeachment trial Monday night, calling them a ‘cover-up’ designed to hide evidence from the American people.
The Democratic minority leader assailed McConnell’s bid to hold a fast-track trial and almost entirely rule out the chance of getting witnesses and documents as a ‘national disgrace.’

The truth is that no one cares about impeachment. And the Democrats have themselves to blame for that fact. Anyone who honestly believed the Democrats’ assertion that speed was of the essence was disabused of that notion when Nancy Pelosi sat on the charges for a month.

Rage on you crazy diamond

Even before it was revealed to be a Deep State misdirection, no one cared about RussiaGate. Despite the nightly cries of “Bombshell” on the network news, sane people saw right through it.
No one cared about Kavanaugh’s accusers. The idea that he was some frat house gang rapist was laughable on its face. Crazed liberals pounding on the Supreme Court doors did not help their cause.
And no one cares about impeachment, either.  In fact, the longer the Democrats rant about it, the more it helps Trump. He looks measured and serious by comparison.
The President does not answer to Congress. So it is literally impossible for him to be in “Contempt of Congress” in any criminal sense*.
The President is not going to be removed from office. That much was clear from the beginning. Not because Senate Republicans didn’t take it seriously, but because House Democrats publicly declared impeachment and just as publicly went looking for charges. After the popcorn fart that was the Mueller Report, RussiaGate II: Ukrainian Boogaloo was never going to be a hit.
This whole process is a partisan political exercise and ought to treated like one. The Republicans ought to be exactly as fair to the Democrats in the Senate as the Democrats were to the Republicans in the House.
Let the Democrats rage. Let them spit fire and howl at the moon. Let them cry out in anguish and terror. And let regular people take note of that large segment of their government that has become mentally and emotionally unhinged.
Maybe after election night 2020 we can get serious about letting the lunatics leave this union.
* Of course, like all sentient beings, he rightly holds Congress in contempt personally. That he does so loudly and without apology is to his credit.
