The Silent Generation’s loss of interest in having children really hits home with me (I was born in 1965). Virtually every comment my parents made about pregnancy and childbirth was negative, including complaints about overpopulation.
Yes, we were truly the unwanted generation. Now, having said that, my parents did want children and tried for several years before having me. I have a mixed parentage: Silent Dad, Boomer Mom. Dad was very traditional; Mom was not.
My parents definitely wanted my sister and me, and were very affectionate toward us. I suppose they were mostly going along with the cultural tide when they made those comments.
