  1. Even an atheist who expects no afterlife still wants to believe a paradise will exist sometime, somewhere. So his mind is ill prepared to be grimly realistic about the fallen state of human nature.

    • Atheists seem to have this faith in the perfectibility of humanity. If we just elect the right people, if we just pass the right laws, if we just put enough money into education, if we just send all the wrongthinkers off to the gulags… then we will have a perfect society.
