Communion: Reversals

January 23, 2018

Mary was chosen by God to be the mother of Jesus. She saw Him grow up, listened to Him teach, and then watched Him die and helped bury His body, not knowing what would happen next.
When she first took the Lord’s Supper, Mary’s place in the world was turned upside down. She who had nourished the Savior of the world with her body was now being nourished by His.

As Jesus grew, He may have had his own share of accidents. From skinned knees, to fingers hit with hammers, or hands and arms nicked with saws or axes, Mary surely tended his wounds with care. Now, the Blood that she had cleaned from skin and clothes was cleaning her heart and soul.
That same blood that we celebrate with today cleaned the sins of our ancestors in the faith, and cleans our own.
