Ok, this shouldn’t be anything you haven’t heard before, but it’s always good to get one’s butt kicked now and then.
For everyone reading this, I want you to do three things.
First, make a list of things you are planning to do if only you had X.
Second, STOP BEING A DAMN PUSSY AND START ON ONE RIGHT NOW.
Third – and this might be the hardest – stop being afraid of failure. In fact, welcome it because it is an incredible teacher. You are going to fail. Understand that, accept that, and get over it.
Take all your bullshit excuses and shove them. Right now, the internet has more tools than you can possibly use, from videos to how-to articles to online communities around whatever topic interests you. Do something. Right now. Don’t wait until New Year, do it now.
If you are already taking names and kicking ass right now, hell yeah, brother. Now, see about helping others – your family, your siblings, your buddies – start doing something.
I’ve wanted to make bread at home for years. Nothing fancy, just straight up white flour simple bread. But I fell into the “Oh, that looks like it could go wrong in a lot of ways and it’s a mess and what if it doesn’t turn out right?” trap, the cousin to the Toolbox fallacy.
Finally, I said screw it and made bread. It was okay and I made a mess. I did it again. Much better and less of a mess. I did it again. Not great, but my family really likes it. I’ve been watching YouTube videos and taking notes on things people do that could improve the quality of my bread and I’ll apply what seems interesting and see if that improves my bread.
Winter is a great time to do things like that. Pick something and do it. Comment here and we’ll help each other by holding each other accountable.
After all, we are the men of the West and we come from a long line of men getting it done.

I have been wanting to get into scale modeling since I was a kid but I have always been waiting for the disposable income, then the time, and then…I lost my “I don’t care how this comes out” youthful attitude. I’m starting a model tonight!! Get in the arena people!!

Sometimes people don’t do things because they don’t know where to start. If you need to upgrade your computer, and want to build it yourself but don’t have anyone to help them out, drop me a line on the computer thread over at http://www.thestarscameback.com, and I’ll see what I can do to help out so that it goes reasonably smoothly for creating what they need within a budget.
I’ve got a bit of surgery to do on the door-frame around the entryway that I’ve been putting off (exterior, ground level), and it looks like it might be more than just an ounce of bondo and paint. Anyone got experience with doing adjoining concrete/wood rot evaluation / removal / repair work?
I don’t off the top of my head. I’ll ask around, tho.
To be honest I really haven’t done enough to have a scale preference. I have a variety of model subjects I’m interested in, one of which is military aircraft. I also really like the old Aurora kits from the 60’s and 70’s.

Ah, I do remember those. Mainly figures (movie monsters, superheroes, etc.).
I started my own business a couple of years ago, and that scene from the movie was part of the catalyst. Right now most of my income is from doing handyman types of jobs, but I want to get into more creative types of things. To that end I’ve started doing some blacksmithing, learned some welding, etc. I just recently sold my first custom piece, a wood shelf for a friend to display his collectible whiskey bottles. I did a couple of hammered steel bands across the front. He and his wife loved it. It’s a great feeling!
